Line Drawing Project- subject hands

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?

It was interesting.  I felt like I should have done more shading but I could not make it look right no matter how many times I tried.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?

I used sketching pencils.  I tried with charcoal but it smudged quite a bit.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?

When drawing with my left hand, non-dominant hand it felt a bit uncomfortable at first.  It was difficult to try to get smaller details with my non-dominant hand.  But I felt the more I used it that it did get a little bit more comfortable.

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?

The drawing with my dominant hand I believe looks more realistic than the one drawn with my left hand.  I thought the drawing with my left hand would have been a real disaster, but now that it is done it looks recognizable.  I think it was a successful study, as it taught me that even though using my non-dominate hand is difficult, it could be useful sometimes.

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?

I would consider using it in small doses.  I am not sure I would want to use it for an entire drawing unless it lacked detail.
